A Wonderful Web Club Experience!

By Rebecca W. (June 13, 2007)

  Thanks for the Memories!

As a fifth grader I have had many magnificent times at Calvin Coolidge School, but participating in Ms. Levine’s 2007 Web Club was the absolute greatest. Over the course of this year I have enjoyed writing, reading, and publishing articles. I also got great pleasure in learning new computer methods, practicing my typing skills, taking pictures, touring the construction site, interviewing students and teachers, and most of all spending time with my friends, and one of my favorite teachers, Ms. Levine. When I leave Coolidge School, I will bring many great memories with me, but I will never forget my wonderful Web Club experiences.

Yin-Chris Soentpiet, Author and Illustrator,
Visits Coolidge School

By Rebecca W. (May 16, 2007)

"Follow your dreams.", was what Chris Soentpiet said when he visited Calvin Coolidge School on Thursday, May 10, 2007. This author and illustrator has produced many books including Around Town and an award winning book, My Brother Martin. He showed us some of his fantastic sketches and drew some boys and girls in the cooperative audience. Soenpiet told us about his interesting childhood and also showed us a slideshow. We really enjoyed having this outrageous artist visit our school. In addition we would like to thank the PTO for organizing this day and we would also like to thank Ms. Liotard for selling the Chris Soentpiet books after school.

Bike Rally Held for 3rd and 4th Grade

The Wyckoff Police Department were present at Coolidge School to talk about bicycle safety with grades Pre-K through Grade 5.  After the assembly, the Officers and parent volunteers checked off a check list to make sure that all of our 3rd and 4th graders can ride their bikes safely to and from school.  It was an exciting time for everyone.  Check out the photos below.

"Imagine That!"

By Rebecca W. (May 2, 2007)

Calvin Coolidge School held its amazing theme day on April 13, 2007. The children started off their day with an improv theater performance. Then they went to exciting workshops. Some workshops interacted with learning, arts, music, food, sports, and science. We would like to thank the PTO and all of the parents that participated in theme day. The 2007 "Imagine That!" has been one of the best days all year.

Thank You from the Class of 2007!

By Ryan Y. (May 2, 2007)

This year, as you may know, the 5th grade of Coolidge School had a plan to improve the courtyard for reading, relaxing and other activities.  With your generosity we are on our way.  We are happy to say that we have raised over one thousand dollars ($1000!) by selling student-designed tee shirts.  The 5th grade class of '07 would love to thank everyone who donated their time, cooperation and money.  Thank you for helping us to improve the Calvin Coolidge Elementary School’s courtyard.

Coolidge Celebrates

Read Across America Day!

By Rebecca W. (March 6, 2007)

Read Across America Day was awesome! On Friday, March 2nd, Coolidge School celebrated this special holiday by encouraging each student to dress up as their favorite book character, and bring in old books that still were in good condition. On Friday, the gym was packed as we sold these books for one dollar each. Coolidge School would like to thank the Student Council for putting effort into telling their peers about these events.  Thank you for participating in Read Across America Day!

Cast Announcements Coming Very Soon

By Amanda Y. (February 20, 2007)

I can tell that all of the kids are excited to hear about the chorus news. They can't wait to hear the cast announcement on February 23, 2007.

****** IMPORTANT ******

NO CHORUS on February 21st

FULL CHORUS in the gym on February 27th and February 28th

I bet you are all wondering what this Spring’s musical will be? Well, wait no longer because I can tell you! It is the Lion King. The beloved movie is going to be this year’s spring musical. The fourth and fifth grade chorus will be performing it in June. We asked Mrs. Allen why she chose the Lion King and this is how she responded. She chose it because it can teach us life lessons and values.  Also, she loves Elton John's music and he was what inspired her to play the piano when she was a kid!

The chorus is very excited and we cannot wait!!  We hope to see you at the show!

Fifth grade rehearsals are on Wednesdays.

Fourth grade rehearsals are on Tuesdays.

Coolidge Happenings

2007 Here We Come

By Rebecca W., Krista S. and Kellie S.

(January 3, 2007)

To celebrate this time of year all the grades are doing something special for the holidays. Here are some of the things that the students at Coolidge have been participating in prior to our Winter break:

Kindergarten-read a book about a snowman with a missing heart, so they made their own snowmen with missing hearts. They also made gingerbread people at home with their family.

First Grade-has been learning how to balance objects.

Second Grade-wrote poems about snow.

Third Grade-spoke about family traditions and wrote compliments to other kids on mittens.

Fourth Grade-Wrote holiday acrostic poems and gave them as gifts.

Fifth Grade-Wrote about the "perfect gift".

In 2007 We Resolve To...

By Rebecca W., Krista S. and Kellie S.

(January 24, 2007)

Now that it is the New Year, some people have made some resolutions for 2007.  A resolution is a goal or a promise that you make to yourself.  Have you ever made it through a year keeping a resolution? The art, computer, gym, media, health, and music teachers have made some resolutions for school and the classroom. Some teachers have set their goals at home for their personal life.

Mrs. DeMase, the art teacher, would like to cut down on desserts, take a Chinese cooking class and visit more friends. Ms. Liotard, our media specialist, would like to play more music and Mrs. Allen would like to lose weight, play golf and be more organized. Mrs. Kohanchek, our nurse, would like to walk three times a week and eat a healthy diet. Ms. Levine, our computer teacher, wants to be more organized and to continue to find ways to make computers fun and educational at the same time. Mr. Sancetta, our Physical Education teacher, forgot it was the New Year. Those are some New Years’ resolutions that the teachers made from Coolidge School.

Construction Update

Construction Making Slow Progress

By Peter B.

Pictures By Peter B. and Ryan Y.

(May 2, 2007)

When the webclub students went outside to take pictures of the construction, unfortunately there were only two men working. Although it seems that not much has been getting done, we know that the construction company is busy working on the other elementary schools too and it isn't easy. The exciting thing is that it almost looks like they are starting to build a room. The good part is that they are prepared to start building because they have all the steel they need. They have actually started making a wall foundation.

The workers at Coolidge school said, ''If they come across a bolder they will have to get the rock inspected, so they can dig it out. After that they will have to start the proccess again.'' Right now the construction workers are beginning to get rid of the rocks, and are starting to make the foundation. This seems like a tough job because of the bad winter weather coming our way.

Construction Begins at Coolidge
By Peter B., Ryan M. and Ryan Y.
(October 11, 2006)

Mr. Famularo, the Principal at Coolidge School, said that the construction will finish somewhere around November, 2007. That seems like a long time to wait.  I thought it would be finished by the end of this year.  After talking with Mr. Famularo, here are some things that are being built:

·     A multi-purpose room the size of the gym

·     One regular size class room

·     Two small group instruction rooms.

·     Another small courtyard.

With all of these additions this school will turn out great.  I wonder if I’ll recognize it when I come back from Eisenhower to visit?

Log It Program Begins at Coolidge

By Perry L. and Rebecca W.

(October 18, 2006)

Mr. Famularo thinks it is going to be a successful year for Calvin Coolidge School. What makes him so proud is to see students working and doing their best every day. The principal wants the new playground and hopes everyone participates to raise money. He also thinks that students are showing encouragement towards the new Log It program.  This program was began to get kids and parents to walk to school, especially during our Construction.  We hope to walk 10,726 miles this year. In case anyone didn’t know the theme for this year is going to be

Building a School of Readers.

                                   Reading is So Important

By Chris S.

(October 18, 2006)

A big topic of this school year is reading. I believe that reading is a way to learn many things. Every day you have to read something in order to figure something out. As a fifth-grade student I have come to understand the importance of reading through all my years at Coolidge School. Just like we have the Log-It program, I think we should have a program for reading. If you have any comments about this issue please contact Ms. Levine or the Webclub. If you have any ideas for other popular topics please bring them to the computer room and we will reply to all of your questions or ideas.

  Welcome to Coolidge School...

Introducing Timothy L.

By Allison D.

(October 25, 2006)

We interviewed TIMOTHY L.! He is in the fifth grade in Mrs.Ebanietti’s class.   He said that his old school was a lot of fun!  He is now in Band and Chorus.  At his old school he played softball during recess and gym. Tim came from Fort Lee, New Jersey.  We asked him if he thought it was hard leaving his friends behind?  He said that "He didn’t really leave his friends, because he still is in contact with them". He also said, "He really liked Mrs. Ebanetti." He really likes his classmates and works well with them. Timothy’s favorite subject is math. His favorite Special is P.E.  At Coolidge we have Web Club and Chorus, but at his old school he did not have that…and that is about Timothy L.!!!  We are happy that he is here at Coolidge School.

La La! Almost a week ago the chorus went to Paramus Park to perform a Holiday Concert. We performed songs called Winter Walk, Hanukah O Hanukah, White Christmas, Winter Fantasy and more! Some people had choice to sing a solo, duet or a trio and there were even some instruments. Thank you Mrs. Allen because if we didn’t have you the show would be dull!  For the people who wanted to go but couldn’t- see the pictures below.
