Welcome to the 2007-2008 School Year	Welcome Winter!

   We can’t believe 2007 is coming to a close! We have a lot to
celebrate. We have become great readers, writers, problem solvers and thinkers. We are looking forward to putting our best foot forward in 2008!
    During our reader’s workshop we have continued making self connections and will begin making text to text connections. We continue to actively read our “just right” books and respond in our reading journals.
    We have read many books during our writer’s workshop that are used as models for our own writing. This month we focused on different kinds of pattern books such as, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Have You Seen My Cat? and A House Is a House For Me. We wrote many creative pattern books of our own.
    In math, we completed our chapter on subtraction strategies. We now know many different ways to add or subtract. We have been doing a great job on our math drills. We will begin answers to 10 when we get back from the break.
    Lastly, we completed a unit on families in social studies. We discussed different kinds of families and how each family is special. We read many books about families and created a family graph. We completed the unit by writing about special traditions that our families do for the holidays.
    The first graders wish everyone a happy and healthy
holiday season and a Happy New Year!!
