It seems impossible that this school year is coming to an end, but that’s what the calendar says!  May was a really fun month as we finished meeting the rest of the Letter People.  Mr. C and Ms.K share the same sound so we studied them together and learned that they show up together at the end of words, too.  Then there was Mr. Q and his questions!  The lessons centered on question words (what, where…) and writing questions, as well. Phonics lessons focused on how q and u appear together when writing words like queen and quilt.  Of course we had to get x and y in too, but realized how few words begin with those sounds!  We continued to review and use our Everyday Words and encourage the students to keep up with them over the summer.  Math lessons continued in the areas of money, addition and subtraction, but we added telling time to the hour.  The children enjoyed learning about butterflies using non-fiction texts and they wrote about a new fact that they didn’t know about prior to our lesson.  They made butterflies using coffee filters and clothespins that were added to our hallway display.

The month of June will be packed with our 75th anniversary assembly, our very first Field Day and our Kindergarten Celebration on June 17th.  The year comes to a close with our very own Ice Cream Party as we dress as our favorite Letter Person on June 19th.
