Comical Mathematics

Frequently I find numbers used humorously in the comic section of the newspaper. Many questions can be generated from simple cartoons. Ask your child to read the comics. Initially they may be befuddled by your suggestion that they read the comics, but soon they will find a reason for such maddness. The conversation alone will be priceless, and the number of subjects incorporated in this activity is amazing. First of all, your child will be practicing reading. Secondly they may come to recognize political cartoons which is a great social studies connection. The artistic implications are apparent, and when occasionally a series of numbers or logical reasoning is used, the mathematics is fun and functional! What could be better than spending time with your child learning and laughing together? Enjoy every aspect of your child's growth experience. They may thank you for it later, and you'll create a relationship that will last a lifetime.
