Registration Info for Kindergarten Class of 2008/09 - Dates, Times, & Registration Checklist
- REGISTRATION:
Registration of all pre-Kindergarten children usually takes place in February at each elementary school. Youngsters are admitted to Kindergarten if they reach their fifth birthday on or before October 1.
KINDERGARTEN HANDBOOK:
A special HANDBOOK FOR KINDERGARTEN PARENTS is given out at spring registration. It serves as a helpful guide for parents whose children will be entering Kindergarten in September. Copies are available in each school and on this site (Click Here).
PARENT AND STUDENT ORIENTATION:
Parent and student orientation is divided into several phases:
Pre-Kindergarten students are invited to come visit Kindergarten classes and participate in a mini-Kindergarten experience while parents meet with other school personnel. Teacher and observer process data collected and observed for use in planning instructional programs and working with the children. Kindergarten Orientation will take place at each elementary school in late August.
Parents who are interested may enroll their children in a pre-Kindergarten readiness program. A two-week program is offered in the summer.
Shortly before the opening of school in September, the children are invited to visit the Kindergarten classroom. This orientation familiarizes incoming students with the school surroundings so that they will feel comfortable when they begin their first school experience.
Shortly after the opening of school, parents are invited to Back-To-School Night to hear an explanation of the Kindergarten curriculum and meet the special area teachers who will be working with their children.
EARLY ADMISSION TO KINDERGARTEN:
In the case of a child who will reach age five between October 2 and December 31, and whose academic and social development has been observed to be advanced, the parent may request testing for early admission to Kindergarten. Parents may call the guidance counselor at registration time to arrange for testing.
