Google comes to Eisenhower!
Cristin Frodella,
Google's Manager of Education Initiatives, and a Google film
crew visited Eisenhower on April 9th to film Mr. Olejarz's
seventh-grade digital imaging classes. The video crew taped
students working on and discussing their Doodles 4 Google.
Doodle 4 Google is a competition in which K-12 students were
invited to play around with and redesign the Google homepage
logo.
Cristin Frodella appeared on ETV where students
interviewed her about her job at Google. You can see the
interview by visiting
the ETV April schedule page and clicking on April 9th. Eisenhower was one of six schools from across
the US that Google visited.
An added benefit of the visit was that the Google film crew
spoke with the eighth-grade ETV classes about video production
and interview techniques.

Team 8 raised almost $1,400 for the Community Food Bank
of New Jersey.
This was an absolutely remarkable achievement considering
that Team 8 only has approximately 100 students. We are overwhelmed
by their enthusiasm and generosity!
Because of their efforts, many families will not go hungry
this holiday season.
The Community Food Bank of New Jersey will be issuing each
student a certificate of recognition and will be sending
the school a thank you letter.
This was an amazing display of community and empathy for
those in need.
And in addition to $1,400 raised for the food bank, Team
8 also collected 11 boxes of clothes for various homeless
shelters throughout New Jersey!!!
Nice job, Team 8!!! We're all very proud of you.

The NY Times website
publishes 19 of our students' editorials!
Language Arts students in Mrs. White's class responded
to Can Polyester Save the World, an article that appeared in
the New York Times on January 25, 2007. Not only were they
published, but high compliments were paid to their writing
style by NYTimes editor, Katherine Schulten, "I also always
choose those who sound like they're writing in their own natural
voices, and so many of your kids did! This is rare: lots of
teachers must give kids templates to fill in so that they all
sound the same.."

conduct
experiments
with
wind
turbines,
(2)
observe
the transformation
of mechanical energy to electrical energy by a wind turbine,
(3) analyze quantitative data collected from experiments and
Internet databases, (4) speculate as to the feasibility of electricity
generation by wind farms in New Jersey, and (5) evaluate the
environmental benefits and consequences of wind power generation
in New Jersey. After completing these steps, students will work

need about the trip.
Eisenhower
received three awards at the New Jersey Association of Student
Councils’ conference. For the 3rd straight
year, Eisenhower Middle School was recognized as a leader
in community service by being awarded the Community Smile Award.
Although the Student
Council was granted the award, it reflects highly on the
involvement of all our students in the various clubs and organizations
we have
here at Eisenhower.
The Eisenhower Student Council was also distinguished as a top school for charitable
donations. We were one of 10 schools in the state that donated more than $5,000
to Buddy Ball, and were the 3rd highest Middle School contributor to the state
charity. Our final donation to the charity was $8,741. The final donation from
all of the schools in the state totaled $136,000!

On
Monday, May 2, 2005, seventh and eighth grade members in the Battle
of the Books Club competed interscholastically in the annual Battle
of the Books Competition. Blair, Tracey, David, Brian, Alexis, Christine,
Tamar, Jackie, Katie and Ally did a wonderful job representing Eisenhower
School. Other schools that competed in the competition were from
Franklin Lakes, Rutherford, Oakland and Mahwah. The sixth grade competition
is scheduled for May 19th.
