Finding A Good Book

There are many sites available through the internet that will give you lists of young adult books suitable for our Reading 2000 project. Of course, the Eisenhower School Library and Wyckoff Public Library have many books available and have computerized card catalogs through which you may search. But if you feel like surfing the net, here are some sites which may prove helpful. Once you locate a title of interest, you can check the school library or public library to locate this book.

http://www.uk.bol.com - this is a United Kingdom web site which will give you ideas. Since the Harry Potter books are written by an English author, you might want to check this site out to find out other outstanding writers. When you go to this web site, search by subject and then click on to the Children and Teenagers category. Once there, they have a great site called "cool books your teenager will read."

http://www.bookbrowser.com/ReadingList - this is a general site that allows you to search in many ways. http://www.ala.org - this is perhaps the most scholarly site for books as it is part of the American Library Association. When you go to this site, you will want to connect to "Booklist", their magazine of book reviews, and once on this page, click into the "young adult" book section. However, some of these books are reviewed prior to being published so you may have to wait if for it to be published. But many times the wait can be very much worth the while.

http://www.bookpage.com - BookPage is a monthly book review distributed nationwide by more than 2,000 bookstores and libraries. This is a monthly magazine which does not allow a search by subject. However it will search teenage stories.

http://www.bookspot.com/ - This is a comprehensive site which gives you access to young adult books through their home page. There are also links to the Carnegie Public Library in Pittsburgh and the Salt Lake Library in Utah.
