Summer Reading Lists

June, 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Summer Reading Program. Wyckoff Schools are committed to creating a community of life-long readers.  Reading is a fundamental, pleasurable activity that can broaden experience through good literature. Fostering good reading habits provides a solid basis for academic achievement.

An integral component of Wyckoff’s balanced literacy is choice. Children are encouraged to investigate a wide variety of authors, titles, and genres. Suggested lists are available as guides for students entering grades K through 8 in September.

Give your child a gift; spend time together reading your favorite books.  In an effort to get a sense of your child’s summer reading life, please keep a running record of the books he /she has read. Log on the website: www.wyckoffschools.org to access lists and reading log. I have supplied the Wyckoff Public Library with the recommended titles. Please give your child a voice in the selection process. Remember, reading is a choice, not a chore.

Happy reading!

Michele R. Pillari
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
