Chocolate
By Ellen

Out of all the candies in the world
From gummy worms to chocolate swirl,
Chocolate is by far the best
Much, much better than all the rest.

Its luscious taste
Its milky texture!
It's a sweet mistake
Without a lecture.

And to collect so very much on Halloween!
It makes my taste buds jump with glee.
They're on quite a tasty shopping spree.
Well, very much to my chagrin, I must go,
But I just thought you'd like to know-
I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!

Roller coaster
By Ellen

Six Flags
big blast
twists, turn
loops, curves
dives, dips
so swift
ends, stops.
That's all!
Great fun
Only once?
Let's do it again!

Winter
By Ellen

The wind whispers in my ear
a soft, soothing cooling sound
that speaks of winter.
Before I can see it come, it
falls like happiness on a day of freedom.
It makes all the meanings of joy clear,
the snow falls.
The laughter rings in my mind,
the laughter of children.
So soft and light is the snow that it
pours silence over the world
like syrup poured over the warm pancakes
that I ate for breakfast.
The peace hushes the land and brings long
lost memories of ecstasy to my mind.
I recall the snow days that I have so immensely enjoyed
and bundle up for the cold.
With the white blanket surrounding me,
I feel as if heaven as come to visit for a day of glory,
for a day of family.
The days of snow seem to enlighten us all,
and make us think about life like we never have before,
and it is all because of winter.

Sky
By Ellen

Overhead, clouds are flowing in the wind like the Nile River.

They are like wisps of heaven, simply floating for the eye's enjoyment
For the mind's enjoyment
For the soul's enjoyment
The sky changes the world

Its lighthearted blue color, and occasional deep blues

Brighten with the sun as its light rays beat down on the earth
It bewilders me
It touches me
The sky changes the world

The sky and its blueness-they deepen with rich color

Against the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona
Behind the Rocky Mountains of Colorado
Adding bright happiness to the skyscrapers of New York City
All creatures see it everywhere
It hovers overhead
It brings a silent wonder to the
Deserts
Plains
And forests
The sky changes the world.

Excuses, Excuses
By Ellen

Mrs. Thompson, I forgot my homework by mistake.
I went fishing and dropped it in the lake.
Why did I take it there?
To keep it safe from the homework burglars.

You haven't heard?
They're all around town!
Their stealing strategies are most profound!
You liked my vocabulary? Thanks!
I'm very proud.

You still don't believe me?
I'll tell you the rest.
A fish took it and brought it back to its nest.
At eating, well, her small fries were best.

How do I know?
The water was clear! I could see right through it, teacher dear.
Why didn't I fish it out?
Well, to tell you the truth, my dog ate it.
I'll bring him in! There's some paper still stuck on his tooth.
