The Mystery of Mathra
By LindsayLong ago, there lived a monster that rose up from the deep. He terrorized the people and the animals of the village. So the people had to take charge. They dug a hole and made a very big bar cage. They took the monster and trapped him underground. Then they locked him in a place called Golden Gate, locked the door, split the key in two, and threw one half in the Monkey Kingdom and one in the Goo Lagoon. So he would never terrorize anyone again.
Years later, three kids Mike, Eliza, and Chelsea were visiting the same place where the monster was last seen. They didn't really believe in the legend, but they had to admit all the BEWARE OF MATHRA signs there weren't that heartwarming. When they got to the hotel, they were surprised to see that it was a tent in the middle of a forest right outside the Golden Gate. They were scared and didn't want to stay there. But the person who had taken them into the forest had already run off in terror, because Mathra was standing right behind them and his roar was scarier than ever. Then the monster grabbed Mike by his shirt and carried him off. The two girls, not knowing what to do, ran away until they ran into a big sign that said "Turn left to Monkey Kingdom and turn right to Goo Lagoon."
They decided to turn left and turned into a dark hole. After about a minute of falling, they hit the ground with a crash. An old monkey greeted them with a cheerful greeting. He told them that the only way he could give them the key was if they helped Monkey Kingdom with its many problems. Just then Mathra flew over head and dropped a tag that read "John Heffernan's Fur Coat Company". "That's weird," the kids thought. "Somebody's probably using the animals for their fur." So they agreed and set off to help the kingdom with its problems.
They helped all day long and each time they finished helping a monkey, they got sneeze berries. These sneeze berries would help them get through the Amazing Ring of Fire. When they were all finished, they walked to the Rings of Fire. They were amazed to see that they were finished with the task so quickly and were about to reach for the key. They grabbed it and then fell down another black hole. They found themselves at the beginning by the entrance sign. This time, they decided to turn right into the Monkey Kingdom.
They fell down another black hole and landed in a sticky goo. "Eww!" exclaimed Chelsea. "This is gross. I wonder what it is!" "It's goo. Remember the sign said we were at the Goo Lagoon." While they were talking, a flower sitting by the Goo Lagoon told them that he and his family and friends used to use the goo as water, but the awful Mathra was dropping oil in it. As they were examining the oil, Mathra flew by and dropped something right out of thin air. It was a can of oil and it had the words "Plane Fluid" on the front of it.
This is getting weird. They thought, "What would a monster want with fur and air craft oil?" Just then, the flower said, "I have a key and if you help our Goo Lagoon with its problem, I will let you have it." So they helped clean the lagoon and before they knew it, they were falling down another black hole. They found themselves back at the beginning. There was a strange man in front of them. He said his name was John Heffernan. "So, it was you," they said. "Of course, and I'd do it again, too." "If it was you, where is Mike?" they asked. "Oh, yes, Mike. I still have him right here." Just then, he pulled up a big sack he was about to throw over a cliff when Mike jumped out and kicked him in the face. John was sent to jail and everyone lived happily ever after.
