Peer Mediation
Mediation is a process of resolving disputes and conflicts with the help of a neutral third party who facilitates the process. A student mediation program sends a message to students that in our school we can talk over our differences and resolve conflicts peacefully. Seventh and eighth grade students will have the opportunity to be trained as peer mediators. More details to follow.
E.C.H.O. Peer Facilitators
The Peer facilitator program is called E.C.H.O. or Eisenhower Can Help Others. We believe it has had a positive impact on students. Selected 6th grade students will be meeting once a week after school for training in interpersonal skills. In addition to leadership and decision making skills, they learn to be effective listeners and communicators. E.C.H.O. members have assisted in the orientation program, led small group discussions, acted as big brothers and sisters to new students and have helped the counselors with many other guidance related activities. There is an ongoing 7th grade group. They have already met this year to assist with the treasure hunt and to help welcome our new 6th grade students.
Johns Hopkins CTY Talent Search Program
For the past several years students from Eisenhower have taken part in the Johns Hopkins University CTY (Center for Talented Youth) Talent Search Program. They purpose of the CTY program is to look for exceptional mathematical and/or verbal reasoning abilities among 7th grade age students and provide them with ample opportunities to excel. Eligible high school students may take the Scholastic Aptitude Test I when it is administered to high school students in January. Mrs. Dobson will meet with qualified students in October to explain the program. Packets explaining the program were sent before, and a follow-up meeting will be conducted for parents of qualified students. Good luck to those students in January.
8th Grade Orientation to Ramapo/Indian Hills School District
December and January will be very important months for 8th grade students. They will be deciding what courses they will be taking in the high school. All their hard work and effort here at Eisenhower will finally pay off. There will be leading a variety of informational programs and events that have been planned to assist parents and students in the decision making process. They will be learning about the university programs as well as the regular academic course of studies.
