Letter to Parents Dated: August 2008
Dear Parents,
As you may have heard, an exciting event is being planned for the 2008-2009 school year called 3R’s Day – “Respect, Reflect and Resiliency” Day. The Eisenhower PTO and the school administration are working together to bring over 30 speakers from various backgrounds to tell their powerful stories and share their riveting personal accounts of how they have overcome great challenges, tremendous obstacles and
incredible odds. The students will hear how courage and optimism are essential to better understand and appreciate our world, other people and themselves. By example, they will gain knowledge of how to develop these three essential life skills:
-the importance of “Respect” for themselves and others;
-the ability to “Reflect” on their own lives and the “world” around them;
-the value of “Resiliency” to persevere through challenges.
We hope this day will inspire the 850+ students in our 6th, 7th and 8th grades to exhibit tolerance, become
aware of the challenges people face every day, appreciate what they have, to become self- reliant and
importantly, to give back. We hope this day, along with other special presentations throughout the 08/09
school year, will serve as a catalyst for our children to learn gratitude for life’s ups and downs; to have
empathy for the challenges others may face; and to develop a personal plan to make a difference.
We need your help to make this day happen. As you can imagine this is a huge undertaking, but we
are so fortunate to have many talented and committed volunteers that have stepped up to help make this
event a very worthwhile endeavor.
You can help by choosing a Sponsorship Opportunity… possibly a group of families can decide to select one of the choices below as a joint sponsorship.
Sponsor a SPEAKER- your family name will be posted as the sponsor of one of our 30 invited speakers.
Sponsor a ROOM – your family name will be posted as the sponsor of one of our speaker rooms.
Sponsor the 3R’s Day T-SHIRTS – if you happen to know of a business that may be interested in underwriting the cost of our event T-Shirts, please contact us.
Monetary Donation - amount of your choice or select one of our preset Levels of Giving to help offset the event costs. Respect $1000, Reflect $500, Resiliency $250
Corporate GIFT Programs – employer matched contributions are always welcome.
You can also help by supporting Upcoming Fundraisers… keep an eye out for
these Upcoming Fundraisers that will be happening at the beginning of the school year.
“Hero Dinners” – back by popular demand, the PTO will be reprising the “Hero Dinners” Sale in September, with a delicious selection of your “Market Basket” favorites...look for the order form on the Eisenhower website.
Macy’s Discount Shopping Cards - shop at Macy’s on September 20th and
this sales event will help raise funds for our 3R’s Day!
Market Day - You can also participate in Market Day, it’s catalog shopping right
here at EMS. Check the upcoming brochure for a wide selection of beautiful gifts, wrapping paper and delicious food items.
Students - the Student Council, ReAct, Clubs and students at large will be spreading the word and raising funds by collecting change… Penny Wars & “Change” Makes a Difference. So get ready and start saving your loose change.
EMS Staff – the staff will also “play” a large role in helping to support 3R’s Day, they will be hosting a
Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game. You won’t want to miss it! So as you can see “our goal” is to get everyone involved in hosting this great event… 3R’s Day – “Respect, Reflect and Resiliency” Day. This cultural event has received so much positive feedback that we are hoping to host this event every three years. Dear Friends of Eisenhower Middle School,
On October 27, 2008 a magnificent event will unfold within the walls of Eisenhower Middle School. The Eisenhower PTO and the school administration are working together to bring over 30 speakers from various backgrounds to tell their powerful
stories and share their riveting personal accounts of how they have overcome great challenges, tremendous obstacles and incredible odds. This all-day event will unite EMS students, teachers, staff, administrators, township organizations, elementary schools, along with local businesses and merchants in a community-wide event! What is it, you ask??? Eisenhower Middle School is hosting...
3R's Day - Respect, Reflect and Resiliency Day
The students will hear how courage and optimism are essential to better understand and appreciate our world, other people
and themselves. By example, they will gain knowledge of how to develop these three essential life skills:
-the importance of “Respect” for themselves and others;
-the ability to “Reflect” on their own lives and the “world” around them;
-the value of “Resiliency” to persevere through challenges.

become self-reliant and importantly, to give back. A sampling of the 3R’s Day speakers include: Darfur Rehabilitator,
Civil Rights detainees, Holocaust Survivors, Subway Hero, Lost boys of Sudan, Doctors without Borders and many other distinguished speakers.
As you can imagine this is a huge undertaking, but we are so fortunate to have many talented and committed volunteers that have stepped up to help make this event a very worthwhile endeavor. In addition to our many PTO fundraising efforts we
still have more work to do so we are reaching out and asking you to please consider joining our team.
