From New Jersey to Japan

November 12-30, 2006

The Journey Begins:  November 12, 2006

The journey began at 6:14 A.M. EST with a flight out of Newark NJ.  Five hours later we arrived in San Francisco ready to begin our adventure.  Of the 200 teachers and administrators participating in the November II JFMF cycle,  8 were from New Jersey.

Everyone was required to attend the orientation meeting at the Sheraton.  Kyoko Jones, Program Director for JFMF, outlined our trip and established the rules for participation.  We also heard from previous participants and other speakers who shared invaluable information.

Consul General Yamanaka welcomed us to the official Japanese Consul residence in San Francisco's Pacific Heights.  Official greetings were given by the Consul general, the program director of JFMF, and a teacher representative from the group.

Following the welcoming speeches, the teachers were invited to a buffet dinner that included sushi, dumplings, and a variety of spring rolls.

The Consul General took time for pictures with each teacher.  It gave us an opportunity to extend our appreciation for his hospitality and gratitude for the support for JFMF by the government of Japan

In addition to a delightful assortment of Japanese food we also enjoyed conversation with each other and the gracious Mrs. Yamanaka and members of the consul staff.
