Outline of American Government-
Extended Readings
These readings are not for the faint of heart! However, they are perfect for the History Geek!
Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation, Joseph Ellis
This Pulitzer Prize winning book is an excellent look at the men most often referred to as "our Founding Fathers". However, as it approaches them from the context of contemporaries, friends and antagonists, the term "founding Brothers" is more appropriate. It analyses the relationships, the give and take, and many of the deals that were instrumental in putting the constitutional government together.
Available in hardcover at book stores and on tape at Wyckoff Public library.
Wedding of the Waters: The Erie Canal and the Making of a Great Nation, Peter Bernstein
A wonderful look at the discussions behind the the creation of, the financing of, the building of, and the nation building economic impact of the Erie Canal
Trail of Tears, Gloria Jahoda
A remarkable story of the removal of indigenous people from the South East from the Native American Point of View.
Trail of Tears : The Rise and Fall of the Cherokee Nation, John Ehle
A gripping and stirring view of the Cherokee people; their traditions, culture, and history including their forced removal from their native lands.

5 hours of Civil war action told through the eyes of the 2nd Maine. This is a long movie- 2 DVD's, but is well worth the investment of time for the Civil War buff. This movie brings us through the first 1/2 of the war. Available at most video rental stores.
Gettysburg
Picks up with the 2nd Maine where Gods and Generals leaves off. A very accurate portrayal of the personal and strategic difficulties faced by both sides . 4 plus hours long. Available in video stores and libraries.
Glory
