Math Class Information

Math Binder

A three-ring Binder with 5 tabs will be used in class. In it you will keep everything you do in math for the whole year.
The tabs will be labeled as follows:
1. Notes
2. Homework (HMWK)
3. Problem of the Day (POD)
4. Quizzes/Tests (Q/T)
5. Handouts
Please also have a Marble Notebook that will be kept in school for Journal Entries.

Types of Work

** All grades are calculated on a point basis.**
1.Individual Assignments – Individual assignments are homework, class work, group work, problem of the days, journal entries, free writing exercises and classroom participation. All of these assignments let me know that you know what you are doing.
2. Projects – Projects will be assigned and a rubric will be given to you so that you know exactly what I am expecting. You will be given some time in class to work on projects and ask for help.
3. Quizzes – Quizzes will be given randomly as we review the material. Quizzes will be announced. Certain Thursdays in the week, instead of a Do Now, you will have a 5 question NJ ASK 8 Prep quiz that will consist of 3 multiple choice questions, 1 short response question and 1 extended response question.

4. Tests – There will be a test at the end of each unit. The unit test will require you to use several different learning skills from lower-level basic skills to higher-level problem solving and critical thinking skills. There will also be short answer/constructed response questions.

A WINK (What I Need to Know) sheet will be given the day before we start a unit. If you hand in the completed WINK ;-) sheet the day of the test you get 5 points added to the test grade.

Grade

Your grade will be calculated based on the total number of points available from individual assignments (varies), projects (varies), quizzes (varies), tests (varies) and notebook (100 points). You should be able to calculate your grade like this
Total points earned (divided by) Total possible points (times) 100 = % Grade

You will do great in Math (or anything) if you give 100% effort. So I expect you to always do your best and you will be on your way to success!!!
