This year in science class you will be creating and using an "Interactive Science Notebook." You will be responsible for bringing this notebook to and from class each day. You will keep all notes, diagrams, reflections, questions, vocabulary, and other important science infromation in this notebook. |
What makes an"Interactive Science Notebook" different from a regular science notebook? |
An Interactive Science Notebook is different in that it is set up to allow the student and teacher a chance to communicate and learn from one another. It will show me what you know about what we are studying, as well as what questions you have. |
How will the notebook be set up? |
For your science notebook, you will be required to use a 100-sheet marble composition book. The pages will be numbered starting at page 1, with the odd-numbered pages being on the right side, and the even--numbered pages being on the left. The right side of your notebook is where you will keep the information that you learn about a subject (the "input"), while the left side of your notebook is where you will record your understanding or reflections about what you have learned. More about this will be discussed in class. |
Will the notebook be checked? How often? |
Yes, I will be looking at your notebook throughout each unit to make sure that it is organized and up-to-date, as well as to check for understanding of material we are discussing in class. At first, I will be checking each notebook once a week. After you get the hang of the notebook I will be checking them every few weeks or so. |
How much of my grade is a notebook check worth? |
It depends on the total number of points for the marking period, but the total value of notebook checks should be around 15-20% of your grade for the marking period. |
