The World of Hurricanes
Light Winds
Hurricanes need light winds in the upper atmosphere for the spinning to develop. They also need to stack up thunderstorms, which means it needs light winds so the tops of the thunderstorms don't blow off. Since wind shear comes from the southwest of west, a hurricane that is heading westward is basically doomed and will be destroyed.
