Web Page Design - 8th Grade Curriculum, Course Description

Educational uses of technology require students to develop higher-order thinking skills by authoring multimedia projects, designing simulations, or using visualization tools to master difficult concepts. The World Wide Web is the latest and greatest way to send ideas around the world. After learning the basics of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), students are introduced to the Adobe GoLive publishing program. While working on this program to develop their individual Web pages, students are developing critical thinking skills, while using their imagination and creativity.

In this eighth grade class, students acquire the skills needed for the high-tech work place -- not just technology skills but content knowledge, problem-solving acumen, communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to assess their work. Before learning GoLive the program we use to create a web site, students learn the basics of HTML coding.  All computers in the classroom are networked and connected to the Internet.

Multimedia - 7th Grade Curriculum, Course Description

Students in this class learn the advantages of using technology to present their ideas and individuality. Multimedia technology makes a tremendous impact on helping underachieving students succeed, while overachieving students remain challenged and motivated. In class we use PowerPoint, and MovieWorks.

The Multimedia class is a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills, promote collaborations and assess what they have learned. This course accomplishes several goals:

1. Provides for a period of reflection
2. Requires students to think of the overall process
3. Forces students to articulate and verbalize what they have learned
4. Facilitates cooperative learning among peers
5. Focuses the presentation toward something that is obtainable
