Creating A CD Jewel Case
Back Insert

1. Open Photoshop Elements.
2. Go to the File Menu and select New...
3. You will get a dialog box like the one shown below in figure 1.

figure 1

4. Enter 5.87 as the width and 4.62 as the height and 150 as the resolution. Make sure that the width and height are being measured in inches and the resolution is pixels/inch. You may also put CD Back Insert in the name box; this titles your document.
5. When your box looks like figure 1 click OK.
6. A new window will appear. Check to see if you have a ruler going across the top and down the left side of your new document. If a ruler is there go on to the next step. If not, you can make the rulers appear by going to the View menu and selecting Show Rulers.
7. Use the Line Tool to draw a straight line down the sides of your canvas 1/4 inch from the left and right-side edges, see below. The two 1/4 inch tabs will get folded up and be used for text. This is the area for the title of your CD.
8. You now have the layout of your project. It should like like the diagram below without the text.
9. You are now ready to use all of the tools that Photoshop Elements offers to create your CD insert. Some of the things you place on your CD insert are photographs you have have taken with a digital camera or gotten from the internet and/or clip art. You may also use the painting tools to create your own images on your CD insert.
