WELCOME TO MATH CLASS
REQUIREMENTS
What do I need to bring to class??
Each student should have pencils, a notebook, math folder and an assignment pad. The notebook may be a spiral, composition, or a separate section of a binder.
What should I do when I arrive in the classroom??
Please take your seat quickly, check the side board for specific directions for your period, copy down your homework, put the previous night’s homework on your desk, and be ready to begin.
What about homework??
Expect an assignment each day. Each homework is worth one point towards your final grade. Late assignments will not be accepted, except in the case of absences or unusual circumstances. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up all notes and assignments.
Tests and Quizzes!!
On average, there will be one quiz per week. Quizzes are announced. A test will be given at the completion of each chapter. A review will be conducted for each test. Tests will count more heavily in your grade than a quiz. Tests and quizzes will be graded on a point system, but a letter grade will also be provided.
Any more work??
Occasionally during the year, a project will be assigned related to the unit of work being studied or to investigate a new mathematical concept. There may be required or optional projects.
How will I be graded?
Your work will be graded on a point system. Points will be given for each assignment, test, quiz, and project. Points will also be awarded for class participation. These points can be lost for not being on task, not being prepared, or inappropriate classroom behavior.
Sample calculation of a marking period's grade:
| Possible Points | Points Earned | |
| Test Grades | 50 | 44 |
| 40 | 36 | |
| Quiz Grades | 15 | 12 |
| 7 | 5 | |
| 10 | 9 | |
| 20 | 18 | |
| 15 | 14 | |
| Homework (25) | 25 | 22 |
| Class Participation | 18 | 16 |
| (10% of 182) | ||
| Totals | 200 | 176 |
| Grade | 176/200 = 88% B+ |
Extra help is available on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday mornings at 7:45 AM.
