The Mariana Trench
Lincoln School Fourth
Grade WEL
To the tune of "Row, Row, Row
Your Boat"
Sink your bathyscaph
down the Mariana Trench,
as in 1960, by Auguste Piccard,
from Belgium, he spoke French.
Found in the North
Pacific,
north of New Guinea,
two hundred fifty miles southwest of Guam,
the Mariana Islands are snow-free.
Drop thirty-five
thousand, eight hundred feet,
equal to 6.8 miles,
deeper than Mt. Everest is high,
populated by psychrophiles.
Often those are
microbes,
who appreciate high pressure.
Shrimps, mussels, crabs and fish,
the Challenger Deep houses
treasures.
It's the deepest
point on earth,
deepest that we know,
two degrees Celcius,
you'd quickly freeze your toes.
