SEA LIONS

To the tune of “Yankee Doodle”

By Lily, Kevin and Lisa

The largest member of the “Otariide” family

Is the super sea lion,

It is such a good swimmer,

That it looks like it is flyin’.

Resembling lions with their manes,

Males can weigh up to a ton,

Each has a small bump on its head,

On land they walk, not run.

Females grow very quickly,

In their first four years.

They slow down after that.

All have small slits for ears.

Chocolate brown are the coats

Of the little pups.

At birth they weigh 51 pounds,

Their calls sound like hiccoughs.

With their great appetite,

They eat lots of fish,

Squid and octopi,

That is their favorite dish.

Sea lions make their homes

On the Pacific coast,

From British Columbia to Mexico,

The Galapagos Islands host.
