Volcanoes

To the Tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel”

By Jenn and Alex

Magma and molten rock flow in vents,

And are forced to the surface.

They explode through the volcano’s top,

We wonder, “What’s the purpose?”

About 600 on the earth,

From which hot lava flows,

Some are violent, all are hot,

Pop goes the volcano.

Hot ash, rocks, and gaseous fumes,

Are thrown up to the air,

The sky becomes a blackened dome,

Get out in time to spare.

Lava rivers yards deep,

Rocks a half mile further,

A ring of fire rounds the earth,

The Pompeiians it did murder.

The different kinds of lava include,

Pahoehoe, which is runny,

Aa is another type

That sounds sort of funny.

When lava wells up under sea,

It looks like a pillow.

Agate forms inside magma,

When lava flows, it billows.

A very famous volcano is

Vesuvius in Italy.

Others on the earth include,

Helena and Mt. Fuji.

Active volcanoes in oceans,

And on other planets brew,

Venus and Jupiter definitely,

And maybe Uranus too.

About 600 on the earth,

From which hot lava flows,

Some are violent, all are hot,

Pop goes the volcano.
