Chewing Chewing Gum

Chew, chew, chew your gum
From a chicle tree,
It was Thomas Adams who put it there
In the late eighteen-sixties.

Mexico and Belize,
Guatemala too,
From the sapodilla tree,
Flavorful to chew.
In ancient Greece it was mastic,
Which sweetened and then cleaned,
It used to be all made by hand,
But now it’s by machine.

Native Americans chewed resin,
That came from blue spruce trees,
Latex and grasses have also been used,
And beeswax made by bees.
William Wrigley and Frank Fleer
Invented minty gum,
They also invented Dubble Bubble--
It’s still lots of fun!
