Spider Monkeys

To the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"

Grant and Annie

Spider Monkeys have dark fur,

They also have strong tails,

They hang in trees and rarely come down,

Slender bodies and such a strange frown.

They live in evergreen rain forests

And lack opposable thumbs,

More primitive than old world monkeys,

But certainly not dumb.

Their sound is like a loud screech.

Females run around more,

Males have less variety to eat,

They scratch themselves with their hands and their feet.

The mothers usually groom their young

Spider Monkeys sleep at night,

Spider Monkeys sleep up high,

To keep them from most frights.

They like to eat fruit and seeds

Babies cling to their moms,

They start giving birth at age 4 or 5,

For 27 years they are glad they're alive.

They also eat young leaves and flowers

Babies are put into groups,

In zoos they love to feed them,

All kinds of great fruit.

They use four limbs when moving,

But they leap with two.

They are built for living long.

Spider Monkeys are extremely strong.

Though most are now endangered,

Diminishing habitats threaten their food.

Some of the Spider Monkeys species

Will soon conclude.
