Academic Support Program The Reading and Math Specialists at Washington School provide services for all students in Grades K-5 in a variety of ways. Supportive help is administered in the areas of reading, math, and language either in the Academic Support Room or within the confines of the regular classroom, and may involve an individual, a small group, or a large group of students. The Specialists establish reading and math groups in correlation with the Building Team and select the appropriate instructional material for each group. They assist the teacher in finding supplementary materials to enhance the reading and math programs within the classroom. Initial screening of new students entering Washington School is a responsibility of the Reading Specialist and Math Specialist as is the diagnostic testing of reading/math skills whenever a change in level is being considered. As active members of the Washington School Building Team, the Specialists assist in the ongoing assessment of every child in the school to ensure that the needs of all our students are being met on a continuous basis.
