Criteria for Entry

  • Each book should be a picture book.  The award is based primarily on the illustrations, but other components such as the overall design and written text will be considered.
  • Authenticity:  All artwork should be created independently by the student submitting the entry. Parents are encouraged to be supportive of their child but not active participants in the creation of the book.
  • Artistic technique: collage, water color, torn paper, colored pencil, pen and ink, markers, photograph, computer drawings.  Clip art will not be accepted.
  • Pictorial interpretation of the story, theme, or concept.  Pictures should match the story.
  • Appropriateness of style of illustration to the story, theme, or concept.
  • Representation of the plot, theme, character, setting, mood, or information through the pictures.
  • Presentation to a child audience.
  • No more than 2 students may work on one book.
